Answers to common questions about LangToggle, and how to reach us.
Frequently asked questions
What does LangToggle do?
LangToggle adds and removes input sources — keyboard layouts, input methods and trackpad handwriting — with one click in the menu bar, so you don't have to go through System Settings each time. Register the input sources you use now and then, and a checkmark shows which ones are currently added.
Can LangToggle switch between input sources?
Switching between input sources you've already added is built into macOS (⌃Space), so LangToggle leaves that alone. If you like, it can switch to an input source as soon as it's added.
Does LangToggle collect data or connect to the internet?
No. LangToggle collects no data and never connects to the network, and there is no account or sign-in. The input sources you register and your settings are stored only inside the app's sandbox container on your Mac. It doesn't need Accessibility permission either, because it doesn't intercept keystrokes.
How do I set a shortcut for an input source?
Click the menu bar icon and choose Settings…, select the input source, click the Shortcut field and press a key combination. F13–F20 work without modifier keys. If macOS already uses the combination, LangToggle warns you — it checks your current settings rather than the defaults. It can't detect shortcuts used by other apps, so press your shortcut once to make sure it works.
Why can't I remove an input source?
LangToggle never removes your last remaining input source, because you couldn't type without one. To remove it, add another input source first.
I can't see the LangToggle icon in the menu bar.
Menu bar managers such as Bartender or Hidden Bar can move new icons out of view. Reveal the hidden icons, then ⌘-drag the LangToggle icon into the visible area.
